I realized that I haven’t done a book review for the site in a while. It’s not that I haven’t been reading, I just haven’t had the time to put my thoughts together to make even the shortest review.

I just finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt the other day and thought it be worth letting you all know that I enjoyed this one quite a bit.

I had read Tartt’s previous novel The Secret History a few years ago. Though it was enjoyable, I also found it a tad pretentious and her characters were rather forgettable. The Goldfinch takes Tartt’s interest in the lives of the privileged and the outsiders among them to a level that is actually likeable. Her protagonist, Theo Decker, isn’t perfect. But you cheer for him through most of the book and that’s one of the the signs for me of a story well written.
