boneclocksI’ve read David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas (loved it), The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet (didn’t like it), and now his latest novel The Bone Clocks.

There’s no denying that Mitchell is a wordsmith who knows to pull you into his story. He has a way of creating a character through change of pace, diction, and personality that can make you wonder if he’s not a bit of a multiple personality in real life. But, wow, does he like to take his readers way out there with The Bone Clocks. It is so far into the supernatural, that I’m not too sure I want to go along for the ride. Unlike Gaiman who makes it feel like it’s absolutely normal to explore dreams, death, and gods. Mitchell is a little coarse in his opening of other worlds, but what the heck. I’m here already anyway, so I might as well.

If you’re a Mitchell fan, I don’t think this novel with disappoint. If you’re new to his writing, I say start with Cloud Atlas and decide from there.

  1. I loved Cloud Atlas, absolutely head over heels…also, I think, because I had zero knowledge of what was in store for me 🙂 I think I’ll give this one a try!
