I recently borrowed this adorable graphic novel from a friend of mine and in true Craig Thompson fashion, this little story about a tiny wide-eyed turtle on his quest to see the open seas left me feeling sad. After putting the little book—which can be read in under an hour—down, I felt this intense longing to be near the people I love.
Many of us know what it’s like to follow our dreams to vast places beyond our tiny ponds. I know that’s what a lot of my friends and I here in Sydney battle with everyday. This urge to explore and see the bigger side of the world, but at the same time this longing to be with the people we love back home.
A line I really loved in the book was…
“This town is washed up for you. You’re like a little flower that’s outgrown its pot and needs to be transplanted in order to keep growing.”
