Wedding dress shopping has to be one of the most exciting and daunting parts of a woman’s big day. I’ve heard horror stories that will make you cringe and triumphant dress finding missions that make nabbing the right one all the more sweet.
I was recently invited to Rosa Clará’s lovely shop at The Residences Greenbelt for a dress fitting event. Brides were invited to try on some of the lovely gowns from Spain and given expert advice on what styles would best suit their needs.
Valerie Zayco, Managing Partner of Rosa Clará Philippines was kind enough to share her personal tips for my site on how you can make the hunt for the right dress go smoothly. Whether you decide to go for a one-of-a-kind design or purchase a beautiful RTW, I think you will find her suggestions, based on extensive training with bridal designer Rosa Clará herself in Barcelona, very useful.
Good luck, ladies!
1 Do your research.
Whether you are planning to buy your gown or have it designed, you should always remember to look at your options before making a final decision. Research for feedback on the designer or the shop. Were their brides happy with the final result? Were they easy to work with? Remember, always go for the one that makes you feel special and will help you find the perfect gown for you or listen to your ideas and help you make your dream dress.
In the same way, when going to a bridal shop, you should try on as many gowns as possible. The beauty of RTW wedding gowns is you actually get to see yourself in many different designs so try on as many styles as possible. Don’t also stop at the first visit. Go back as many times as you need to until you find the one that best suits you.
2 Work on a budget and decide on the maximum amount you are willing to spend.
Surely your wedding is a very important occasion, but nowadays when there are so many options, it doesn’t make sense to splurge on something you cannot afford.
3 Don’t compromise on fit.
A beautiful design only shines if it highlights your best features and hugs you well. Remember, you will be wearing your wedding gown for a minimum of 8 hours, and all eyes will be on you. You want to make sure the dress is not too big or too tight so that you can be comfortable and enjoy every moment. It’s always obvious when a bride is uncomfortable in her wedding gown.
4 Choosing your wedding gown is a very personal decision so always trust your instincts.
It’s your special day and you will be the one walking down the aisle, not your mom, your best friend or your sister. If you have fallen in love with a certain gown or a specific look, go for it. As important as it is to consult the people closest to you, as well as experts and designers, in the end, always remember that you should go for the one that makes you happy. There is no one perfect dress for everyone the way that there is no one perfect groom, but there is definitely a perfect one for you.
5 When choosing your gown ask yourself, when I look back at my wedding photos 10, 20 years from now, will I be able to pinpoint the exact trends during that time?
If you look at photos of iconic wedding dresses like Princess Grace of Monaco’s or The Duchess of Cambridge‘s, you will notice that the gowns are so timeless. Going for an elegant and classic look never fails.
Why didn’t you have this blog post in 2009? i could’ve definitely used it! I know my initial dress horror story would be the cringe-worthiest of all. 🙂 Nice post, babe.
Haha! I thought of you when I was remembering the horror stories. Thank God it worked out for the best. Your dress was so lovely! XX
