GraveyardbookI read Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the story of Bod: the little baby who survives the slaying of his entire family only to find himself being raised by ghosts in a graveyard. This young adult book follows Bod’s eccentric upbringing through the charming characters he meets between and beneath the tombstones while he uncovers the real reason why a murderer is still out to get him.

Gaiman has always been one of my favorite authors when it comes to weaving tales about worlds that are magical, a little dark, and full of adventure. He has a way of making these worlds feel accessible to his readers. We’re always in for a ride and we are more than happy to take the journey with him. It’s not always easy to picture where Bod’s colorful life take him, so I was thrilled when Fully Booked offered me the chance to review the graphic novel version of this short tale. P. Craig Russel does a great job of illustrating Gaiman’s words and adding a completely new dimension to the tale. The entire novel is divided into two volumes — this is Volume 1.

Hi Cat! I’m a huge Gaiman fan as well – the way he distorts the conventional fairy tales and creates something new out of them is a trademark of his. I especially liked his short story “Snow, Glass, Apples.”

Always been a fan of your blog (and your Instagram feed as well), and I like how you have continuously supported local products and local artists by featuring them on your blog. 🙂

    • Thank you so much for stopping by, Cris! I really am a big fan of local brands. I appreciate you’re taking the time to let me know that you like that about the site. 🙂

  2. Hi Im Sam, I’m 26, from Davao, based In Manila, and i love words – especially in the written form :). I’m Fatima, 20, currently doing my thesis, a bit stressed from all the school works and blogs are my stress relievers. 🙂 I love all your arts and crafts posts. Your blog even changed my lifestyle, now I’m obsessed to anything organic 🙂

  5. Hi! I’m Rhio Angeline and I’m a law student. I love to read all kinds of medium especially blogs – so that I can balance my left and right sides of the brain. Hahaha! I once saw you in Baguio but I was too shy to say Hi. It was also during those times that I read an article of you on Meg Magazine which really truly inspired me and somehow until now, pondered something in my mind. I forgot how exactly I started reading your blog but I love reading it since it kinda’ gives me this light feeling of serenity or simple joy – like a breather especially when you share something about your family, travels and other creative ventures. 🙂 Here’s to wishing you a blessed and great week ahead! 🙂 <3

    • Hi Rhio! Nice to hear from you! I remember you made a comment about the Baguio sighting on my IG. Please be sure to say hi next time and best of luck on your law course! 🙂

  8. I am a Neil Gaiman fan since the Sandman series and Neverwhere, I stalked him on his first visit to the Philippines years ago to have my Stardust graphic novel signed, and I wrote a term paper and got a very good grade for it for his Smoke and Mirrors.

I’ve been reading your blog for several years now that I can’t remember how I learned about it in the first place. Hehehe. I like your blog for being an easy read with lots of good advices. I cooked your adobo recipe to the delight of my ex-boyfriend (literally because he was before we decided to get married) and looked over your blog every time for recommended reads.

    HI, Ms. Kat!

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.” ― Neil Gaiman

And may I get to receive this graveyard book by the genius, Neil Gaiman. I hope to have and hold and read this and be awed as always. And I hope to be surprised accordingly. Thank you, universe! 🙂
