One of the favorite phrases my husband and I love to hear our two year old son say is, “Read a book please.” We really love how he’s now in this age where he curls up beside us, sits patiently, and listens to us share stories of new and exciting places.

So you can imagine how happy I was to receive this wonderful children’s book to read to him, by one of of my favorite authors no less.

Chu2Meet Chu: an adorable panda who is just a little nervous about his first day of school.

Chu’s First Day of School is a beautifully illustrated children’s book written by none other than Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Adam Rex. It’s the perfect tale to read to a child just about to embark on their first day in a new school setting. It follows little Chu on his first day as he listens to his various classmates share something they love to do.

Chu1

What I love about this book is that it’s not extremely wordy and it’s just the right length for a read right before bed time. Smart children’s authors know that these two things are super important when composing their stories.

  7. Hi Cat, thank you for blogging about this. I would love to give this as a gift for my sister’s stepson. 🙂

  8. rebeccapilapil@gmail.com – I don’t really join giveaways. How is this for a start? 🙂 I would love to win this book for my husband to serve as an inspiration of our next journey in our lives. Someday, when the time is right, we can both read it together or take turns in reading this to our Little one/ones.

  9. Sign me up for the raffle! I have “Chu’s Day”, but not “Chu’s First Day of School” 🙂 My nieces and nephew love “Chu’s Day”! Before my niece, Aniya, could take, she would make “atchoo!” sounds (complete with facial expression. LOVE it!) when she wanted us to read the book to her 🙂 🙂 You know how I love Neil, and it delights me that our little ones will grow up loving him and discovering him in all his phases 🙂 <3 <3 (kilig! haha)

I have a nephew who’s about the same age as Fin and also loves books (and being read to, I guess) and we happily indulge him as much as we can. 🙂 In other news, do you know that there’s even a Science article that encourages reading fiction because it raises a person’s level of empathy (http://www.sciencemag.org/content/342/6156/377.abstract)? I’ve been telling my friends it’s the best argument for reading [fiction]! 🙂

Thank you for sharing this book Cat! To young bookworms! 🙂
