My family and I love the outdoors, but if there’s one health secret I’ve learned from my mom, it’s to never be out in the sun without protection.

With summer in full swing, I’ve decided to share with you my three favorite sunblocks. I assure you that each one is worth its weight in expensive anti-aging serums.

AvΓ¨ne Very High Protection 50+ I was asked to try this sunblock out when I  wrote a review on it for Calyxta, my face has never looked back. I love how it just melts into your skin without making it super greasy. There’s a slight floral smell and whitish cast, but both fade rather quickly. This also works great as a foundation primer.

Mustela SPF 50+ Very High Protection Sun Lotion: Fin has been taking swimming classes twice a week this summer so this yellow tube is a staple in his back pack. He doesn’t mind when we slather it on, it never stings his eyes while making sure his soft skin is guarded from any burns. I’ve trusted Mustela for him since he was a baby.

VMV Armada Sport 70: My husband, Carl, has been training for triathlons this year which means that he is either in the water, on his bike, or running up a storm. All outdoor activities that require maximum protection. Unfortunately, he is also extra picky when it comes to putting on sunblock (hates the stuff). My mom recently gave us a tube of Armada Sport and his is now a convert. It’s super high protection but not sticky, thick, or heavily fragranced. Definitely a gold medal winner.

What sunblocks do you like to use? Let me know in the comments section so I can learn more about them! Happy summer, guys!

  1. I’m also a sunblock junkee, have been wearing it everyday for more than 15 years and it has helped make my skin look younger. No signs of wrinkles at 45! However, I’m still searching for one that doesn’t make my face sweat and that would sit well underneath liquid foundation. Will try Avene. Thanks for posting!

  2. Thank you Cat for this blog post! I am using Luminisce Sunblock for my face (I love it!) and I am currently looking for sunblock for my body. I’ll try your recommendations! Summer is extra hot this year!

    • Oooh! I’ve been so curious about Luminisce! I’ll have to check it out! Thank you for the tip, Audrey! πŸ™‚ Ps: post on your blog coming up this week!

    • How does this go under liquid foundation? Does it also work as a primer?

      • It does really well under my cream foundations and BB cream. I’d definitely say that it helps them go on easier and doesn’t make me too greasy. I prefer setting with a powder once at the start of my day. Hope this helps!

  3. Hi Cat! Check out Zinke Sunblock Sticks – perfect for kids!

  4. Living in Western Australia where the sun can be really harsh, I can never go out without lathering sunscreen on my face. πŸ™‚ I used to apply ACM Sensetelial Golden Tint SPF 50 – really smooth texture and blends well that I can go without using foundation. It is just hard to find! I ran out of my two tubes from France and now I couldn’t find them here so i started using La Roche Posay SPF 50. Whilst it does the job quite fine, I will surely go back to ACM once i know where to source them easily. πŸ™‚

    • I loved ACM in Oz too! The brown/beige tube! Thanks for reminding me how much I loved it! πŸ™‚

  5. Been using Clarins UV Plus SPF 40 daily for years; it is non-sticky and works perfectly fine under make-up. The thing now is I am pregnant and I am not sure if it’s safe to use this because of its chemicals. What sunblock did you use when you were pregnant, Cat? Are all the three products above safe for expecting moms like me? I have Armada 70 but I only use it for outdoor activities, and I don’t mind (I actually love!) using baby products for myself πŸ™‚

    • I love Clarins UV Plus 40. That was my face sunblock for a number of years in my 20s. During pregnancy, I would recommend using a sunblock with physical barriers like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide not chemical barriers that get absorbed into your skin. I love using baby products for myself as well. πŸ™‚

  6. Jennifer says

Ive been using sunblock from Luminisce called TIZO 3 and I love it! It can actually work like your base powder on a light day. Thanks for the tip for your husband’s sunblock. My husband doesnt also like to put sunblock so will definitely try the VMV Sport for him. Have a great day! P.S. Im a new reader of your blog and I can sense I will be hooked πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚

    • Oooh. Thank you for the tip! I’ll check it out. Welcome to my blog! I hope you find my posts informative and enjoyable! πŸ™‚
