Ladies and gentlemen, I have found liquid gold. Read more below:
La Mer is a US brand whose translation in English means “the sea” because its story has our oceans to thank. It all began when its founder, Dr. Max Huber suffered awful burns while conducting an experiment and looked to nutrient-rich sea kelp to help heal his skin. 6,000 experiments later, Crème de la Mer was born. This decadent face cream in its signature green and pink box is a cult favorite all over the world. And rightfully so, men and women everywhere rave about this cream’s moisturising and renewing capabilities.
Because of my combination skin, I was invited to try La Mer’s latest innovation: The Renewal Oil. Here is the description of this wonder oil from La Mer’s website:
“This dual-phase elixir blends Miracle Broth™ and sea-sourced actives, unleashing a wave of activity to infuse skin with youth. Collagen production improves, helping soften the look of emerging lines and wrinkles while visibly firming skin. Day by day, skin’s natural barrier becomes more resilient. Miracle Broth energizes skin’s repair process. Soft and ultra-smooth, skin glows with new vitality. Aromatic and soothing, the Renewal Oil enriches everywhere it is applied, creating the possibility of infinite bespoke skincare rituals.”
I’ve tried a few face oils in the past, but I have to say there is nothing quite like this one. I’ve been using 5 drops every night and 3 drops every morning on my face and neck and my skin is LOVING it. The Renewal Oil smells amazing, like citrus and freshness. It gets absorbed into the skin so quickly that I don’t recommend dabbing a few drops around your face then waiting to spread, I have to dab and go or else one portion will just take it all in.
It’s also crucial that you gently shake the bottle before use. Let me show you why:
If you look up close you’ll see there there are actually two layers of oil inside the bottle. If you don’t shake the bottle gently before collecting your drops you will only be using one layer. How did I discover this? I neglected to shake it the first time I tried it on the underside of my wrist and my skin got a little irritated. Yep, that’s how potent this oil is.
But when you shake it (like you can see in the photo above), the oils disperse evenly guaranteeing that you get the right formulation of moisture and renewal in every drop. I have had absolutely no breakouts or irritation since shaking it religiously before every use.
Here are my tips on how I use it:
- Shake bottle.
- Collect a bit in the dropper.
- Put 3-5 drops on a clean palm of your hand.
- Dab your finger into the oil and spread all over your face and neck as you go.
- Spread on damp skin for better absorption and easy spreading.
- Include your lips and eyebrows too.
- Once done cup your palms and inhale the amazing aroma.
It’s pretty obvious I absolutely love this oil. It retails for over 200$, so it isn’t cheap. But when you calculate how much you spend on your day moisturizer, night cream, and primer, you may discover that the price of all three actually comes close and this product will do all those tasks for you. Other beauty bloggers have even found success using it as a hair oil before blowdrying and to moisturise cuticles, but I find that way too decadent for me. I plan to save all of it for my face and neck to enjoy.
You can purchase La Mer in the Philippines at Rustan’s Department Store.
